“Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” — Luke 10:42

Devotional: The story of Mary and Martha reveals a powerful truth about discipleship. Martha was busy serving Jesus, while Mary was sitting at His feet listening to His voice. Both loved Jesus, but only one chose what He called “the one thing.”

Many believers live like Martha. We stay busy doing things for God while neglecting time with God. We fill our schedules with responsibilities, ministry activities, and endless tasks, yet our hearts can become distant from the One we claim to serve.

A disciple is more than a follower. A disciple is someone who intentionally sits at the feet of Jesus. In biblical culture, sitting at a rabbi’s feet was a sign of submission, learning, and devotion. It meant saying, “Your words matter more than my opinions. Your ways matter more than my plans.”

Jesus is not looking for occasional visitors. He desires abiding disciples. There is a difference between visiting His presence and dwelling in His presence. A visitor comes and goes. A disciple remains.

The greatest need in the church today is not more activity—it is deeper intimacy with Jesus. Revival begins when believers choose His presence over distraction. The Lord is calling His people back to the secret place, back to daily communion, back to sitting at His feet.

The more time you spend with Jesus, the more your heart begins to reflect His heart.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, forgive me for the times I have been distracted by many things. Draw me back to Your feet. Teach me to value Your presence above every other pursuit. Help me become a disciple who abides in You daily. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Practical Challenge: Set aside 20 uninterrupted minutes today to sit quietly with the Lord. Read a chapter from the Gospels and listen for what the Holy Spirit wants to speak to your heart.
