Make Room to Listen

Scripture: “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” — John 10:27

One thing I want you to understand about prayer is that we are entering fellowship with our heavenly Father. We can share our needs, confess our struggles, and express our gratitude. He welcomes us.

Within that fellowship, we also learn to listen.

Sometimes we finish speaking and immediately move on. I encourage you to remain attentive. Through Scripture, the Holy Spirit brings truth to our remembrance, reveals attitudes that need to change, and gives wisdom for the steps ahead.

Listening begins with a willing heart. We approach God ready to receive what He says, even when His direction challenges our preferences.

Open your Bible when you pray. Read slowly. Consider what the passage reveals about God and how it calls you to respond. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you understand and apply His Word.

You may sense a prompting to encourage someone, seek forgiveness, or surrender a concern. Bring those impressions before Scripture. God’s guidance will agree with His character and His written Word. When something remains unclear, continue praying and seek wise, godly counsel.

I do not want you to feel pressure to hear something extraordinary. Faithful communion grows as we spend time with the Lord and respond to the truth He has already given.

Today, leave room for quiet in your prayer time. Ask, “Lord, what do You want to shape in me?” Then remain available.

The Shepherd knows you personally. You can trust Him to lead you as you learn to listen and follow.

Prayer: Father, thank You for welcoming me into fellowship with You. Quiet my hurried thoughts and teach me to listen. Holy Spirit, illuminate Scripture and help me recognize guidance that agrees with Your Word. Give me patience when I need clarity and a willing heart when You give direction. In Jesus’ name, amen.
