"Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new." — 2 Corinthians 5:17
Devotional: Every person carries a story. Some chapters are filled with joy and victory, while others contain pain, regret, disappointment, and wounds that seem difficult to forget. Many believers find themselves trapped by yesterday's failures or haunted by things that happened long ago. The memories remain vivid, and sometimes the emotions feel as fresh as the day they occurred.
But Jesus did not come merely to forgive your sins; He came to set captives free. Through His death and resurrection, He broke the power of guilt, shame, fear, and condemnation. The enemy wants you to believe that your worst chapter defines you. Jesus declares something different. He says that through Him, all things can become new.
The Lord takes our story and transforms it into His story—a testimony of healing, freedom, and redemption. What once held you captive no longer has authority over your life. Christ has taken captivity captive and nailed it to the cross. The wounds of yesterday do not have the final word. The cross does.
When you focus on yourself, you may see weaknesses and mistakes. But when you fix your eyes on Jesus, you see a Savior who is greater than your failures, stronger than your struggles, and able to restore what seemed lost.
Your story is not over because Jesus is still writing it.
Prayer: Father, thank You for making me a new creation in Christ. Help me release the pain, shame, and regrets of the past. Teach me to keep my eyes on Jesus and trust in His finished work. Fill me with freedom, healing, and hope as You continue writing my story. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Practical Challenge: Identify one area of your past that still tries to define you. Surrender it to Jesus in prayer and declare aloud: “My past is under the blood of Jesus, and my story is not over.”
