“Do not be afraid; only believe.”- Mark 5:36
Devotional: Jairus had asked Jesus to heal his daughter, but while Jesus was on the way, the worst report arrived: “Your daughter is dead.” Fear had every reason to take over. Yet Jesus immediately answered the report with a word: “Do not be afraid; only believe.” He did not tell Jairus to pretend the news was untrue. He told him which voice to trust.
Negative news can make us forget who God is and who we are in Him. Fear magnifies the problem until it fills our vision; faith turns our eyes back to Jesus. Fear says it is over. Jesus says He still has the final word. When they reached the house, Jesus removed the voices of unbelief, took the girl by the hand, and told her to arise. What looked finished became a testimony of resurrection power.
Perhaps you have received a report that shook you—a diagnosis, a financial crisis, a broken relationship, or troubling news about someone you love. In that moment, guard your heart. You do not have to surrender your faith to fear. The Greater One lives within you, and His Word remains true. Let the voice of Jesus become louder than the report. Your responsibility is not to figure out how He will work; it is to keep trusting the One who is able. Do not be afraid. Only believe.
Prayer: Father, when fear tries to rule my thoughts, help me hear the voice of Jesus. I surrender every troubling report to You. Fill me with peace, strengthen my trust, and keep my heart anchored in Your power and faithfulness. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Practical Challenge: Name the report or circumstance that has been feeding fear. Each time fear rises today, answer it aloud with Mark 5:36: “Do not be afraid; only believe.”
