Created to Walk With God

Scripture: “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” —James 4:8

Devotional: You were created for more than merely surviving, accomplishing goals, or accumulating possessions. You were created to walk with God.

In the beginning, God prepared the garden as a place where humanity could live in fellowship with Him. Everything Adam and Eve needed was available in His presence. Sin produced separation, but it could not extinguish God’s desire to dwell with His people. From the garden to the tabernacle, from the temple to Jesus, Scripture reveals a God continually making a way to be near us.

Through the sacrifice of Jesus, the veil was torn and the separation was removed. Now God’s presence is not confined to a tent or a building. If you belong to Christ, the Holy Spirit lives within you. You are His temple and His dwelling place.

That means His presence is with you when you awaken and when you lie down. He is present on your best days and your most difficult ones. He is with you at church, at home, at work, and in every ordinary moment. He has promised never to leave you nor forsake you.

However, we must learn to recognize and respond to His presence. God is not hiding from you. When you turn your heart toward Him, seek Him sincerely, and draw near in faith, He reveals Himself.

Do not settle for knowing facts about God while neglecting fellowship with Him. Walk with Him. Speak to Him. Listen for His voice. You were created to live every day in the awareness of His presence.

Prayer: Holy Spirit, thank You for living within me. Awaken my heart to recognize Your presence throughout my day. Teach me to walk with You, hear Your voice, and enjoy fellowship with You. May my life become a dwelling place where Your glory is revealed. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Practical Challenge: Choose three ordinary moments today—such as driving, eating, or working—and intentionally acknowledge God’s presence. Speak to Him and pause to listen.
