Build Your Prayer upon the Word
Scripture: “Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.” — 1 John 5:14–15
Confidence in prayer grows when we know that what we are asking agrees with God’s will. But how can we know His will? We discover it through His Word. God’s Word reveals His heart, His character, His purposes, and His promises.
Your prayers do not have to be built upon human opinions or uncertain feelings. They can be anchored in what God has already spoken. When you pray for healing, provision, protection, salvation, wisdom, peace, or direction, search the Scriptures and discover what God says about that need. Then bring His promises before Him in faith.
Second Corinthians 1:20 declares that all the promises of God in Christ are “Yes” and “Amen.” God is faithful to His Word. He does not make empty promises, and He does not forget what He has spoken. The enemy may remind you of everything that could go wrong, but faith reminds the enemy of what God has said.
It is important that the Word becomes personal within you. There is a difference between saying, “My pastor said,” and declaring, “Jesus, You said.” Read the Scriptures, meditate upon them, and speak them until they become established in your heart. Faith comes by hearing the Word of God.
When your heart is filled with Scripture, your prayers become stronger and more focused. You are no longer merely describing the problem; you are declaring God’s truth over it. His Word becomes the foundation beneath your petition and the anchor that keeps you steadfast while you wait.
Prayer: Father, thank You for giving me Your Word so that I may know Your will. Lead me to the promises that speak directly to the needs I am facing. Plant those Scriptures deeply within my heart and strengthen my faith as I meditate upon them. Teach me to pray according to Your Word, trusting that You hear me and remain faithful to everything You have promised. In Jesus’ name, amen.
