“You have a new name because of what Christ has done for you.”- Isaiah 62:2-4
Devotional: One of the greatest struggles believers face is trying to discover who they are. The world tells us that our identity is found in our achievements, failures, careers, relationships, or past experiences. Yet the gospel declares something entirely different. A disciple’s identity can only be found in Jesus Christ.
When we come to Christ, we are not simply improved versions of our old selves. We become new creations. The labels of our past no longer define us. Shame does not define us. Mistakes do not define us. The opinions of others do not define us. The cross of Jesus becomes the defining moment of our lives.
The prophet Isaiah declared that God’s people would receive a new name. That new name is not based on performance but on relationship. Through Christ, we become beloved sons and daughters, the Bride of Christ, and people in whom God delights.
This revelation changes everything. When you understand that God delights in you, you stop striving for acceptance and begin living from acceptance. You stop trying to earn His love and start responding to the love He has already demonstrated through the cross.
Many believers know facts about Jesus, but disciples know His heart. A disciple understands that God’s love is not merely a doctrine to believe but a reality to experience daily. The more you understand His love, the more freedom you will walk in.
Today, remember that your identity is not rooted in what you have done. It is rooted in what Jesus has done.
Prayer: Father, thank You for giving me a new identity through Jesus Christ. Help me reject every label that does not come from You. Teach me to see myself the way You see me. Let the revelation of Your love transform my heart and strengthen my walk with You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Practical Challenge: Write down three labels from your past that you have allowed to define you. Then write three truths from God’s Word about who you are in Christ. Spend time thanking God for your new identity.
